Buzzer-Beater Clips Eagles In 1A Boys Showdown

A last second, buzzer-beater was the ideal ending to the best game of the tournament on the ASAA 1A Boys State Championship side of the bracket, in the final game of the second round of the winner’s bracket: If you are the Tri-Valley Warriors!

 

If you are the Cook Inlet Academy Eagles; it’s crushing!

 

Tri-Valley 65 – CIA Boys 63

After battling through 31 minutes and 55 seconds of back-and-forth action (a regulation game lasts 32 minutes) with lead changes every quarter; the Warriors score the game-winning field goal by Michael Renshaw as time expires for a 65-63 win to advance to the final four in the 1A boys tournament.

Cook Inlet’s Abraham Henderson tied the game at 63-63 with a field goal and a free throw before the heartbreaking final attack by the Warriors.  Cook Inlet trailed by seven at the half, before Ian McGarry  scored 16 points in the third quarter to lift the Eagles to a five-point lead at 46-41.  The lead changed a half-dozen times in the final four minutes.  For the game, Ian McGarry led the Eagles with 26 points; the Warriors were led by Joshua Renshaw with 28 points.

 

Cook Inlet continues play on Friday with a consolation round game at 12:30 p.m. against New Halen with a spot in the 4th-Place game on Saturday on the line.
