Safe Kids Kenai Peninsula will be presenting a water safety event, “Splash Into Safety”, Saturday April 1st at the Skyview Middle School Pool.
According to a press release from Brad Nelson with Central Peninsula Hospital, the event is free of charge and designed for children between ages 5—14.
After completing the safety stations at Skyview Pool, attendees will be able to purchase a new, properly fitted PFD for $15 (while supplies last), cash only.
Caregivers must remain with children at all times; however, do not have to get into the water. Attendees (children) are asked to please bring swim suit and towel.
Nelson stated that it takes approximately 1 hour to complete the stations. Stations will include:
- US Coast Guard Information
- Be in the Know/Prepared
- Fish/Environmental
- Cold Water Immersion
- PFD Fit
- Reach/Throw/Don’t Go
- Banana Boat/Self-Rescue
- Help/Huddle
Participating organizations include: Safe Kids Kenai Peninsula, Alaska State Parks, Kenai River Sport Fishing Association, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Central Emergency Services, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, many community volunteers.
