The 2023 Big C Relays, Alaska’s largest indoor track and field meet, featured 22 varsity girls teams and 21 varsity boys teams and scores of non-varsity, unattached and community runners in two days of competition in the Anchorage Dome.
Soldotna High School and Homer High School track programs used the Big C Relays as an opening competition for many athletes, a testing ground and opportunity to set early season marks, and as a chance to test their best athletes against the best from throughout the state.
The Soldotna girls finished second in the varsity team scoring behind only Chugiak in a field of 22 teams. The SoHi boys placed 9th in the boys team scoring; East Anchorage placed first overall.
Soldotna High School’s Katelyn Morrison topped the field in the Women’s High Jump with a personal best 5’1″; Morrison also finished 3rd in the Women’s Long Jump with a distance of 15’3″.
Homer High School’s Seamus McDonough raced to a championship in the 3200M in 9:43; McDonough also finished 6th in the 800M.
