Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Peter Micciche addressed a gathering of more than 100 students at the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District’s annual student council event on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023.

Students from all over the Kenai Peninsula Borough gathered at the Renee C Henderson Auditorium to hear Mayor Micciche and other government officials speak about the importance of government service. In his address, Mayor Micciche spoke briefly about his background and how he got involved with public service, but he primarily fielded questions from the audience of student officers.

“I mostly want to hear from you,” Micciche said, as he encouraged students to tell him what was important to them.

Questions from the students ranged from what the day-to-day of being the mayor is like to what they, as students, could do to get the Alaska State Legislature to approve an increase in school funding.

Mayor Micciche reiterated that being engaged and communicating with elected officials is the best way to have your concerns heard and to prompt actions that students want.
