The Kenai City Council accepted and appropriated federal grant funds in the amount of $1,206.88 that was received by the Kenai Community Library.

The funds were issued from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, passed through the State of Alaska, Department of Education and Early Development, Division of Library, Archives & Museums, for continuing education expenses.

These funds can be spent on travel, lodging, per diem and registration expenses for conferences and workshops. The Kenai Community Library has decided to designate the funds to reimburse travel costs related to a staff member’s attendance at the annual Alaska Library Association conference.

Additionally, the Kenai Community Library received a $10,000 donation from community member Deborah S. McCarthy. These funds have been designated to purchase early literacy equipment and furniture for the Kids Spot.

The early literacy equipment features interactive games and STEAM content designed to support school readiness and literacy skill-building in young learners.

The furniture will provide additional shelving and storage for youth services materials and programming supplies.

In the memo from the Kenai Community Library they say, “We appreciate the generosity of the donor!”
