Monarchs Take First Game Against Oilers

Despite late-inning rallies, the Peninsula Oilers lost their 5th straight game, a non-conference affair, against the Michigan Monarchs, 6-4.

The Monarchs wasted no time hitting Oiler starter Arnaud Mulemakic with 5 straight hits, four consecutive singles and a double, for a 4-0 lead. Adding single runs in the 2nd and 7th, the Monarchs enjoyed a 6-0 advantage until the bottom of the 7th inning, when the Oilers replied with 2 runs, and again in the bottom of the 9th with 2 more, including a double by Nick Costello. Both rallies began with 2 outs and no one on base, a never-say-die habit of the Oilers this season. The game ended with the Oilers threatening with men on base.

The next Oiler home game is a non-conference contest Thursday at 6:00 pm against the Monarchs. All games are carried on ESPN 1140 AM, 96.9 FM and  radiokenai.com, with the Sweeney’s pre-game show at 5:40 p.m. featuring play by play announcers Bob Bird and Nick Sorrell.
