Oilers Break Five Game Losing Streak With Win Against The Monarchs

The Peninsula Oilers snapped a 5-game losing streak in strong fashion, drubbing the Michigan Monarchs 9-4 on Thursday evening.

 

Winning pitcher Ty Correa went 7 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out seven. The Oilers came out with a bang in the first inning, delivering 4 runs with a cluster of singles and a double.

 

Outfielder Leighton Helfrick was scorching hot at the plate, going 3-for-4, including 3 RBIs and 4 stolen bases, and was also impressive with an inning-ending diving catch in right field. By the 7th inning the Oilers sported a 9-0 lead.

 

Oiler reliver Harrison Metz allowed 4 runs in the final 2 frames to end the Oiler bid for a shut-out.

 

The two teams play their final non-conference games tonight at 6 pm. The games will be broadcast by Bob Bird and Nick Sorrell on ESPN 1140 AM, 96.9 FM and online at radiokenai.com.
