Representative Justin Ruffridge is pleased to announce that Governor Dunleavy will sign HB 56 and HB 112 this Thursday, July 6th at 11 a.m.

Rep. Ruffridge sponsored bills received a high level of legislative support across both houses when passing the legislature this year. The signing ceremony will take place at Twin Cities Veterinary Clinic, 47303 Healing Court, Soldotna.

Work on legislation to exempt veterinarians from the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program has been ongoing in the legislature for nearly a decade. Ruffridge stated “I am proud of the collaborative effort with veterinarians and many others to pass HB 56 which removes burdensome requirements for veterinarians and addresses privacy concerns for pet owners”.

HB 112 is the culmination of a multi-year collaborative effort with the Alaska Board of Pharmacy and the Alaska Pharmacist Association to modernize pharmacy statutes in the State of Alaska. Highlights of HB 112 include: authority for pharmacists to prescribe epinephrine auto-injectors, alignment of statute with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), and the addition of Board oversight of internet pharmacies. Ruffridge said “this legislation increases access to life saving medications, and ensures medications being dispensed throughout Alaska are safe and effective.”
