Sugar, spice, and skating on ice, it’s time for Hilcorp Night with the Kenai River Brown Bears as they take on the Anchorage Wolverines this Friday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m.

Hilcorp is a proud sponsor of the Brown Bears, and wants to welcome everyone to this fun-filled family night.

Typically, more families means more tickets. But at this game, your ticket inside is a food donation. That’s according to Greg Meyer, the executive director for the KPFB.

“This coming Friday night, the first of December, Hilcorp buys out the game for the Brown Bears. And then what they ask is each person that comes to bring a donation of canned food, or shelf stable food instead of paying for admission,” said Meyer.

This is the 4th year that the food bank bought out the Brown Bears Hockey game. Last year, the food bank was able to achieve 2,200 pounds of food, all while bringing more individuals to the game.

“And it’s been that way each of the nights, we’ve just have a massive outpouring. And I would assume it’ll happen again with his family night. It’s still like one of their best attended games of the year. And it’s so much fun to have all the people there,” said Meyer.

Meyer says that events like this are great from the community. It gives families the opportunity to come see a local game without having to pay the free for a ticket, but they get to help support their local hockey team and food bank. Meyer calls this a “cool win-win.”

“We’re really excited that we can be a part of that and it’s such a cool night if you have a chance to to just be around it a bit on Friday night. I mean there’s so much energy because you see all these families come in it gives them a chance to get out and do something that maybe you know they couldn’t always do and and then to you know feed your neighbors at the same time. ”

So if you’re looking for a way to start your Christmas Spirit on the giving side, head on over to the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex this Friday at 7:30 p.m. to catch a game, and help the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.
