The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a special weather statement for East Turnagain Arm and the Western Prince William Sound, including the cities of Girdwood, Portage, Whittier, Seward, and Moose Pass, predicting snow squalls for Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, bands of moderate to heavy snow showers will continue to move along the Seward Highway Corridor from Portage to Seward through Tuesday evening.
These snow squalls are capable to producing snowfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour. Reduced visibility to as low as one quarter mile is likely within these snow squalls with whiteout conditions possible.
Motorists travelling the Seward Highway south of Portage are urged to slow down and use caution when encountering these heavier snow showers.
