AEA Opens Application For $22.1 Million In Grid Resilience Sub-Awards

The Alaska Energy Authority has announced on Jan. 2nd, 2024,  that they are now offering Applications for a $22.1 million in grant funds to help improve electric grid infrastructure residence against disrupted events.

 

The Request for Applications (RFA) period for the Grid Silence Formula Grant Program will be open until Friday, February 16th, at 6:00 p.m.

 

The Alaska Energy Authority will administer the program funds to the state by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), as authorized by the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (40101(d)). Under this program, $2.5 billion in formula grants will be provided to the states and tribes to improve electric grid resilience.

 

With the Department of Energy’s program, the state of Alaska is predicted to receive $60 million in formula funding for sub-awards over a five-year program period.

 

This program is in attempt to speed-up the deployment of transformative electrical infrastructure projects, to ensure the enhanced reliability of such critical utility-scale systems against disruptive events.

 

Any funding that is taken place under this program comprises array of projects, including transmission infrastructure hardening; vegetation management, power line relocation, replacement, and undergrounding; and monitoring and control technologies.

 

Eligible sub-grantees may include, but are not limited to, electric grid operators; electricity storage operators; electricity generators; transmission owner or operators; fuel supplies; and other relevant entities, as determined by the Secretary (of DOE).

 

AEA also supports the state’s communities and energy infrastructure by offering grant fund programs and loan programs. Alaska Energy Authority also keeps an eye on any External Funding Resources that could help benefit different organizations, businesses, and communities in the state.
