ADF&G Now Accepting Applications For Bear Viewing Lottery

Are you looking for a summer adventure that you won’t forget?

 

Well, now’s your chance because applications for bear viewing at the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary is now accepting applications!

 

Located 100 air miles west of Homer, the McNeil River originates from glaciers and alpine lakes, which are located high in the mountains of the Aleutian Range. Designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1967, this area is home to one of the largest concentrations of brown bears.

 

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, as many as 144 individual bears have been observed at McNeil River throughout the summer.

 

That’s why, from June 7th through August 25th, ADF&G is offering the opportunity of a lifetime.

 

The winners of the online lottery application will be selected to spend four days in the sanctuary to witness this wildlife spectacle as part of a guided bear viewing program.

 

Typically, the cost for a guided viewing permit for Alaska residents is $225, while for nonresidents, it’s $525.

 

Online lottery applications for this summer are due by March 1st at midnight. The application costs $30 per person and is nonrefundable. To submit an application, visit the ADF&G’s one store, or click here!
