Soldotna Police officers arrested a suspected vehicle thief from the Mat-Su last week after receiving a report of a couple doing drugs and engaging in intercourse in the Fred Meyer parking lot.

SPD found themselves having to conduct something of a steamy investigation on Wednesday of last week. A report came in from the Soldotna Fred Meyer that a couple was having intercourse in a truck in the parking lot. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the vehicle the couple was in had been reported stolen in the Mat-Su Valley.

“A phone call came in from Fred Meyer of two people who appeared to be doing narcotics and having sex in a truck in the parking lot. When we get there, it’s a U-Haul pickup truck, and it’s been reported stolen out of the Mat-Su Valley area,” Soldotna Police Chief Gene Meek told KSRM.

The call came in around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10. According to Chief Meek, theft and public indecency were not the only criminal activities going on. “Through the course of [the investigation], the driver [was] the one that had all the drug paraphernalia tucked in around him, so he was arrested for it. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle just to finish getting the narcotics [investigation] and there was a gun in the vehicle, so we obtained that also. He was the only one arrested at the time. Pending the further results of the search warrant, [the female passenger] may have charges come down on her at a later time.”

SPD along with the assistance of a State Parks Officer arrested 27-year-old Cody Meyer of Wasilla for 2nd Degree Theft of a Vehicle.

The truck was seized under the search warrant.

Meyer was remanded at the Wildwood Pretrial Facility and has further charges pending. The female passenger was released at the scene.
