Winter Weather Advisory for East Turnagain Pass
The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a winter weather advisory for the East Turnagain Arm, including the cities of Girdwood and Portage, predicting snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches.
This advisory is in effect from Sunday evening to Monday in the afternoon.
According to the NWS warning, A low pressure system pushing towards Prince William Sound is expected to bring heavy snow along the Seward Highway from Girdwood to Portage, through Turnagain Pass and south to Seward.
Light snow will begin Sunday afternoon, becoming heavy Sunday night into Monday morning and will lighten up again Monday afternoon.
While snow is expected to be persistent Sunday afternoon through Monday night, the heaviest snow and highest snow accumulation will be during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday with more than a foot possible. Total snow accumulation for this event will range from 20 to 30 inches.
Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
Western Prince William Sound – Including the cities of Whittier, Seward, Girdwood and Moose Pass
The National Weather Service in Anchorage has also issued a winter weather advisory for the Western Prince William Sound, including the cities of Whittier, Seward, Moose Pass, and Summit Lake.
This will also be in effect from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon for Turnagain Pass and the Seward Highway.
Total snow accumulation for this event will range from 15 to 28 inches. Seward to Summit Lake should see total snowfall in the 12 to 18 inch range.
Due to road conditions, driving may be hazardous. Any commuters are asked to please slow down and drive with extreme caution.
