HOUSTON, TEXAS – Alaska U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced he will hand deliver a letter on Monday, Mar. 18 at CERAWeek in Houston, Texas, to President Biden’s Climate Envoy John Podesta urging “immediate reversal” of the Biden administration’s ban on new LNG exports and warning of the “dire national security and foreign policy implications” as a result of the ban.
The letter was also signed by Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), ranking member of the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, and Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee.
“We write to you regarding our serious concerns regarding the Biden administration’s recent decision to halt the approval process for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries,” the senators write. “At a time when war is ongoing in Ukraine and tensions are rising in the Middle East and Asia, it is particularly important that allied nations can rely on the United States for a reliable, long-term fuel supply. The administration’s decision, however, creates serious doubts about the reliability of that fuel supply and will have dire national security and foreign policy implications. It should be reversed immediately.”
