Due to construction projects, the Skilak Lake Campground will be partially closed in July and August.

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be making improvements to the Lower Skilak Campground. These will result in the closure of certain areas from 11:59 pm on July 21 until 12:00 pm on August 22.

The project will replace culverts, improve road conditions, and repair and replace campsites that need repair and replacement.

To reduce the impact on visitors, the closures will be divided into 2 different time frames.

The East Loop (seven sites) of Lower Skilak Lake Campground will be closed from 11:59 p.m. on July 21 to 12:00 p.m. on August 4.

The West Loop (seven sites) will be closed from 11:59 p.m. on August 4 until 12:00 p.m. on August 22.

The boat launch and main entrance/road at Lower Skilak Campground will remain open.

Updates will be made continuously. Please feel free to call (907) 262-7021 or (907) 260-2820 if you have any questions or concerns.

The press release from KNWR said, “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to improve our facilities and services for the public.”
