The massive windstorm hitting the Western Kenai Peninsula is knocking out power to thousands of Homer Electric Association members.
As of 7:15 p.m. there were approximately 3,200 reported members without power.
“This wind storm is blowing trees into the line so quick I mean quicker than our guys can respond to them,” said Keriann Baker with Homer Electric. “So, what we’re asking anybody who sees a down power line to give us a call on our outage line.”
The wind storm, with winds gusting as high as 75 mph on the southern end of the peninsula, is expected to last through the night and dissapate on Saturday morning.
“Our primary goal is to restore the power quickly safely and with nobody getting hurt,” said Baker. “If you see our guys out there try and send them some positive thoughts you know they left their their families out of power and ran into the night to restore this as well and they’re working really hard.”
If you experience a power outage or see a downed tree laying on a power line, please notify HEA immediately by calling their outage line at 1-800-868-8243, or report it online.
