The National Weather Service issued a warning Monday day night for strong, gusty winds through the Anchorage Bowl and along the Western Kenai Peninsula.
The wind storm is forecasted to last through Tuesday and diminish Tuesday evening.
According to the NWS weather alert, strong south-southwest wind gusts will persist across Cook Inlet and the Anchorage Bowl through Tuesday as a storm system moves through the region. Residents of these areas should expect sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts 45 to 55 mph at times.
The strongest wind gusts are expected from Homer north along the western Kenai Peninsula coast and across West Anchorage.
The NWS warns that strong winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel may be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
If you experience a power outage or see a downed tree laying on a power line, please notify Homer Electric Association immediately by calling their outage line at 1-800-868-8243, or report it online.
