Winter Weather Advisory For Mixed Precipitation Across Western Kenai Peninsula

Author: KSRM News Desk |

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for mixed precipitation in effect from 4 a.m. Thursday morning, October 31st, through 4 a.m. Friday, November 1st, for the Western Kenai Peninsula, including the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing.

According to the National Weather Service, Light snow will develop Thursday morning. Warmer air aloft moving over the region is expected to change the snow to a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain sometime around noon Thursday. The wintry mix may then change back to all snow by late Thursday evening before tapering off early Friday morning. This is a complex setup. The amount of snow and ice accumulation will be dependent the extent of warm air aloft.

Higher snow totals and less ice accumulation are likely if colder air remains in place over the region. The highest snow amounts are expected from Nikiski south to Ninilchik. Higher ice accumulation are expected east of Kenai, including Soldotna and Sterling.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.
