The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued a revised Letter of Authorization (LOA) to Hilcorp Alaska, LLC, replacing Eni US Operating Co. Inc., for activities in Alaska’s North Slope.
This authorization pertains to the incidental taking of marine mammals during the construction, maintenance, and operation of ice roads and ice trails.
The LOA is effective through November 30, 2025, and involves no changes other than the transfer of the LOA holder from Eni to Hilcorp.
The Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) allows for such incidental takes if they have a negligible impact on the species and do not adversely affect subsistence uses.
Hilcorp has agreed to adhere to all terms and conditions originally set for Eni, ensuring continuity in mitigation, monitoring, and reporting requirements.
This change follows Hilcorp’s acquisition of the operational unit previously managed by Eni, effective November 1, 2024.
