Central Peninsula Hospital (CPH) is partnering with the City of Soldotna to offer free access to the walking track at the new Soldotna Field House for seniors age 65 and older. The initiative begins with the facility’s grand opening and will run through June 30, 2027.
“During the grand opening, that’s when people will be able to start signing up for memberships, and that’s also when seniors will be able to start signing up for their free walking.” Said Shanon Davis, Marketing Manager of the Central Peninsula Hospital.
The walking track will be available to seniors from 8:00 a.m. to Noon Monday through Friday.
“It’s gonna be a game changer for our community in general, but especially for our seniors. This is going to create a much better environment for them to be able to gather and be in a nice warm safe environment and get their exercise.” Said Davis.
The indoor, ADA-accessible track provides a safe, climate-controlled environment year-round.
“Supporting wellness outside the walls of the hospital is essential to keeping our community strong,” said CPH CEO Shaun Keef.
Walking is a low-impact, effective way for older adults to improve heart health, reduce stress, and support mental well-being.
Soldotna City Manager Janette Bower said the partnership is a great example of community collaboration. “This effort promotes healthy, active living and helps seniors stay connected—physically and socially.”
The Soldotna Field House is a new 54,000-square-foot indoor recreation center featuring a multi-sport court, removable turf, and the walking track.
The Soldotna Field House Grand Opening and Community Celebration is on Saturday, August 16, from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
