Homer Electric Association is continuing work to upgrade their transmission lines from Nikiski to Soldotna, the new line is a 115,000 volt line which requires new lines and poles.
Joe Gallagher gave us an update as to where they with progress of the new transmission line installation.
Gallagher: “Homer Electric Association continues to upgrade its transmission line between Nikiski and Soldotna, the line will be upgraded from 69 kilo-volt to 115 kilo-volt and as of right now we’ve completed the majority of the project, we are down the Kenai Spur Highway to Soldotna we will no bring it across to the Soldotna substation near the Birchridge Golf Course. We expect to have the wires and the poles for the project completed by the spring of this year and then there will be some work at the substation in Soldotna to be completed in the fall and that will wrap up this project.”
Gallagher said the funding for this project came from the State of Alaska, and they are very thankful for that money.
Gallagher: “This project was an $18 million project which will very much improve the reliability of the HEA system and the $18 million was an appropriation from the State of Alaska and our legislature and so as we wrap up this project its important to thank our legislative delegation that worked very hard to secure this money for Homer Electric.”
