The Better Business Bureau released a notice that a “ring and run” phone scam has been reported in Alaska.
The scam involves automated dialers calling thousands of numbers that have been found on public listings or attained illegally, waiting for one ring and then hanging up. They depend on curious parties returning the calls to international numbers which could result in unauthorized charges on wireless statements.
Some of the different area codes the calls are coming from are the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands, and Grenada.
