Last night a Kenai City Council’s meeting, the council voted for the Kenai City Manager to write a letter of support for House Bill 141, however not all the members supported it.

Bob Molloy and Mike Boyle both voted no, citing that they feel like there should be more time to review it and Molloy told us a little more about why he voted no.

Molloy: “That would make several changes to the Alaska Worker’s Compensation Act. The one item that I agreed with was that the bill would establish that fees or charges for medical services rendered in another state may not exceed the fee or charge for treatment or service set by the Workers Compensation Statute in that state…The reason I didn’t support it was because the bill also made changes, apparently, that have to do with billing by medical providers and appeals by medical providers which may impact getting paid.”

Boyle also commented that he thought because of the limited time to review he had not read it all however what he had read concerned him.

Despite their protests, the council voted 5-2 in support of writing the letter.
