While the National Association of Realtors reported that existing home sales in January fell lower than in a year and a half, Kenai Peninsula home sales are up.

According to the President of the Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors, Dale Bagley, this is the best winter for sales he has seen in over 20 years.

Bagley: “Your economy is usually always different than your real estate market, but in this case they happen to be coinciding at the same time, the economy is getting better and the real estate market is getting better. I think what we’re seeing is a lot of people are moving in here from all the activity that is happening in the oil and gas industry right now.”

Bagley also said that people he’s talked to have indicated the rental market  is quite tight in the area also due to oil company contractors and crews working and renting in the area for short periods of time.
