Last weekend marked the 10th Annual Way Out Women’s Snowmachine Ride which raised over $72,000 for cancer patients living on the Kenai Peninsula.
According to WOW planner Kathy Lopeman, there were about 20 less riders this year.
Lopeman: “We had great participation from those that were there. We raised over 72,000 and that total is still rising. We probably, when everything is counted, will be up to 80.”
She also said there were about 10 cancer survivors who participated in the days activities.
Lopeman: “We had several people in attendance who had received grants over the last ten years. One of them was the lady who received the first WOW grant 10 years ago and she is in complete remission. It was very moving for me.”
Lopeman said they still have merchandise for sale if anyone wanted to donate but hasn’t yet and also encourages residents of the Kenai Peninsula who have been diagnosed with cancer to contact the Central Peninsula Health Foundation at 714-4626 about WOW grants.
