Soldotna City Manager Mark Dixson told us the City will finalize it’s purchase of a property adjacent to Soldotna Creek Park this week since the soils analysis and environmental testing are complete.
Dixson said that a previous Soldotna City Council approved the purchase however the purpose it has not been determined yet.
Dixson: “There are a lot of possibilities, we’re still narrowing them down. We haven’t reached that. We figured we’d purchase it first and then narrow down the possibilities.”
The property is valuable to the City because it borders on the Soldotna Creek Park and offers opportunity for expansion.
Last week Dixson received the letter from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation which allows the purchase to proceed.
Dixson: “What the letter said is that the contaminates that were found were diminimous in nature and therefore they do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment.”
