On the evening of Saturday, March 8, a Kenai Police Department cruiser was rear ended while taking a suspect into custody for driving under the influence on Bridge Access Rd.
A Kenai Police Officer had pulled over 27 year old Brealand Garrett II of Soldotna and had arrested Garrett for DUI and three counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance.
Garrett was in custody in the back seat and the investigating officer, Casey Hershberger, was standing near the open back door of the police cruiser when 19 year old Anna Nisler of Kasilof rear ended the police car with her Honda while traveling southbound.
Both police vehicles on scene were on the far shoulder of the southbound lane with their lights illuminated when the accident occurred.
Hershberger, Garrett, and Nisler were all transported to Central Peninsula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no citations have been issued.
