Dr. Steve Atwater presented the school district’s quarterly report to the Borough Assembly Tuesday, commenting that he was disappointed in the progress of the statewide school districts healthcare consolidation.
Dr. Atwater: “I’m disappointed not so much that the bill is not going to pass but that the conversation has really quieted, I was hoping that the conversation would continue so that we could figure out a way to get out of the predicament of having to spend more and more money on healthcare.”
Dr. Atwater summarized Senate Bill 90, which was introduced to legislature last year.
Dr. Atwater: “It was going to examine a collective pool of statewide school district employees and whether that made sense to pool them together as a way to reduce health care costs.”
Atwater said that the school district has budgeted for a 6% increase in health care cost during the next fiscal year however over the past four years its been about 40 percent.
