Congress has made a push to restore balance to the separation of powers put in place by the Constitution and cutback on overreach by the Executive Branch.
Earlier this month the “ENFORCE The Law Act” was passed by the House of Representatives to give Congress the ability to authorize lawsuits against the Executive Branch if they fail to execute their duties and enforce the nations law’s.
Alaska Congressman Don Young explained why this act came into play and why he supports it.
Rep. Don Young: “My understand of what’s going on with this President is that he does not believe in separation of powers, he believes very frankly that the constitution is not valid and that the Executive Branch has complete authority to do whatever they damn well please. This act, its unfortunate that its even needed, but we’re trying to stop that type of overreach and we’re making sure that he enforces the laws as we pass it, he signs and that’s the difference.
Young said under this law the President will not be able to retroactively change a law that is passed and signed.
Rep. Don Young: “Once we pass a law and he signs it, it is the law. He can’t arbitrarily by Executive order change this, take that, subtract and add to fit his program. I just sit there and shake my head when I think about it and the public unfortunately isn’t as aware as they should be of how detrimental that is to a Republic which we are.”
The Faithful Execution of the Law Act was also passed along side this act with similar considerations.
