Soldotna Police responded to reports of an employee at Corner Cafe altering receipts on March 13, which resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Elenora Nelson.

Soldotna Police Chief Peter Mlynarik said the employer brought it to their attention and advised how to avoid fraudulent charges.

Mlynarik: “What you want to do is, a lot of people will say do you want a receipt, you say yes and they add the tip amount you put in to the receipt they give you so make sure that your receipt that you get back from them after you’ve already tipped matches what you actually tipped. Because if they change the amount or lets say you don’t put a tip in there and just leave it blank and give it back to them and don’t want a receipt then people can put anything they want in there.”

According to the police report, Nelson had altered over 100 gift and credit card receipts to increase her tip amount. She was arrested for scheme to defraud and fraudulent use of an access device and taken to Wildwood.

The case is still being investigated.
