The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge continues construction on their new visitors center and hopes to have it open by late December.
Project Manager Jason Hayes gave us an update on the approximately 8,000 square foot building.
Hayes: “Well construction is progressing very well, they have completed most of their rough grating on the exterior of the building and they have built the walls and installed the roof and are working on the inside to build up the mechanical systems the sprinkler fire system and all that good stuff, they’ve been blessed with really good weather this winter to be able to get construction done.”
He also detailed the reason for the new building.
Hayes: “Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most visited refuges in the state, if not the most visited and our existing visitors center is coupled with the headquarters building and is extremely small considering the amount of visitation we currently get.”
Hayes said the current visitors center will be used as office space.
