A Joint Kenai/Soldotna Chamber Luncheon will hear from Nicole Shuh of the Alaska State Chamber and Program Director for the Alaska Business Week Program, (Tuesday) April 29 at noon at Mykels in Soldotna.
January Yeager with the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce told us about the program.
Yeager: “It’s for high school students and they go through basically setting up a mock company within their little group and doing presentations and business plans and all kinds of stuff from beginning to end and learn about what it’s like to set up a business and what it takes and financial wise what you need to do, profits and losses and all of that kind of good stuff so that they have a sense when they’re getting ready to graduate if they are going into the business field what they can kind of expect.”
The program takes place in Fairbanks and Yeager said that the Chamber offers a $1,000 scholarship for a locally interested student.
Yeager: “We give that to the Alaska State Chamber and when they get the resumes in for all the kids that are interested, whoever is coming from this area will get a scholarship because obviously they have to fly them up there and house them and feed them and we wanted to help them out in any way to promote business in our younger generation.
