Homer Electric Association held their dedication ceremony for the new Nikiski Plant this morning. We spoke with HEA General Manager Brad Janorschke about the plant.

Janorschke: “We had some expectations as far as efficiency improvements and to date since the first of the year we’ve actually been exceeding what the design specs were for this plant so that’s good news, that means we burn less fuel for the amount of energy we produce.”

We also asked him if the energy growth continues in the Inlet if HEA will be able to meet the demands.

Janorschke: “We do have excess capacity available at this plant, fortunately we’ve a new plant that was just recently commissioned over in Soldotna which is also, believe it or not, almost as efficient as this facility and so we currently have plenty of capacity, efficient capacity available on the Kenai Peninsula.”

The HEA Annual Meeting is currently being held at the Soldotna High School. The business meeting and an overall update from Janorschke will start at 6 pm.
