State Park Cabin Rental Rates to Increase

As of May 15 fees for reserving state park public use cabins will increase from between $5 to $10 dollars per night.

Deputy Director with the State Parks and Rec Division Claire LeClair said the fees have not changed since 2005.

LeClair: “So the current rates are in effect now and will be until the 15th and then the new ones will be until the 15th and then the new ones, the increased ones go into effect on the 15th and they’ll stay that way.”

LeClair said each cabin’s rate is dependant on a variety of conditions but mostly location and demand.

LeClair: “Some of it is the condition of the cabin, some of it is the cost of maintaining that asset. We also have to take into consideration if there are any alternatives for the public that are provided by the private sector because we don’t want to be in competition.”

Alaska State Park operational costs have increased by over twenty percent according to the state’s press release.
