The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is looking at property adjacent to the Soldotna Creek Park, known as the Davis Block property, as a potential site for a bigger visitors’ center and convention center.
As we previously reported, the City of Soldotna was in the process of finalizing its purchase of the property earlier this year which is one reason Chamber President Ryan Kapp said the conversation has arisen again.
Kapp: “We believe that the Davis property is a pretty nice spot and a pretty prime location and has a lot to offer. With its co-location with the City park there in the middle of town, etc. and on the Kenai River, of course. So we believe it’s a great location, we’re just trying to do some due diligence and get some more data that might be helpful in future decisions.”
The Chamber met with architects in April and received concept designs that were tailored towards that property.
Kapp said that all needs studies and concepts can be used for other properties as well.
Kapp: “Everything we’ve done to date has been at Chamber’s request and Chamber’s expense. We’re hoping to share the results with the City as part of a brainstorming session later and provide data for them to make good decisions with. At this point, that’s where we’re at.”
Ultimately the decision would be up to the City of Soldotna.
