The Kenai Fine Arts Center is opening three brand new galleries this evening from 6pm – 8pm, including a student produced project labeled Ancestral Homes.

Center board member Joe Kashi told us about the Ancestral Homes project where Kenai Mayor Pat Porter and School District Superintendent Steve Atwater are scheduled to make appearances.

Kashi: “A series of student narrated slide shows, home models and wall mounted photographs of 48 different projects done by students in which they research various Alaska Native cultures and then build very nice models of the ancestral dwellings, which we’ve helped them put together, we’ve called it Ancestral Homes.”

He told us about the students involved in the project also.

Kashi: “The Ancestral Homes show has been put together by three fourth grade classes at Kalifornski Beach Elementary School under the leadership of fourth grade teacher Mrs. Darcy Marcou, as well as Mrs. Mia Renkins class and Mr. Jason Daniels class.”

Along with the Ancestral Homes gallery are two other galleries featuring local art and all are free to the public.
