Soldotna Mayor Nels Anderson proclaimed the week from May 11th to the 17th as Kenai River Spring Cleanup Week.
Soldotna Council Member Keith Baxter shared how people can participate this week.
Baxter: “Anybody in the community is welcome to participate by cleaning up the Kenai River. Free bags and information about the clean up can be picked up from either the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center or the Kenai River Sportfishing Association office.”
Next weekend there will also be a community trash weigh-in barbecue from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May17th.
Baxter: “There will be a community bbq for everybody who participated in cleaning up the river at Soldotna Creek Park and if you’d like to have free food and be entered for many different raffle prizes then bring the trash you collected and we’ll check you in. There will also be several informational vendors there, ReGroup Recycling will be there, Stream Watch will be there, and many different vendors will be there giving out information about water safety, conservation, river habitat and things like that.”
