The Division of Forestry has extended a burn suspension through the weekend based on a low humidity and winds forecast.
Public information officer Andy Alexandrou with the Soldotna Division of Forestry said that this burn suspension applies to burn barrels.
Alexandrou: “The camp fire is approved for a small fire, no larger than three feet accross and that is legal. As the sunny and warm weather conditions continue, drying of the grasses and timber increases the potential for large fires. We ask all folks to enjoy their weekend campfires but make sure to have some water handy to suppress any embers that may escape your fire.”
He added that the McRoberts Creek Fire that reached containment Thursday night was determined to have been caused by an unattended campfire and that sometimes individuals responsible for large fires may be fined.
Alexandrou: “They could be cited for starting a fire and at times they could be billed for the suppression costs for that fire that they started.”
