On Wednesday evening the Soldotna City Council postponed the ordinance banning the sales of synthetic drugs in order to wait and see if the governor signs the statewide legislation relating to the sales of synthetic drugs.

The ordinance reads: “WHEREAS, herbal and/or chemical mixtures are being imported into, and potentially marketed and sold, in the City of Soldotna which are not necessarily controlled by federal or state law but which are designed and marketed to mimic the effects of controlled substances.”

Soldotna Police Chief Peter Mlynarik explained what the ordinance does.

Mlynarik: “Well I think it’s targeting the ordinance is more of the packaging and they are supposed to represent fairly what’s in the product on the package and a lot of times that doesn’t happen.”

If the governor does not pass the statewide legislation Mlynarik said Soldotna will likely implement their ordinance and may possibly work with Kenai for a similar one.
