Rumors about looting along Funny River Road haven’t yet been proven, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Megan Peters with the Troopers explained.
Peters: “The rumors have been going on for a while now and last time I talked to the Captain about it it was, yeah, we have this one person saying it’s happening but no one’s reporting to be a victim.”
After evacuations Peters said that one set of homeowners came home to muddy footprints in their home but were told that firefighters had been instructed to go inside and shut windows, so that embers could not get inside and ignite anything.
Peters: “Certainly if you are concerned that somebody has stolen something from your property, call the troopers, report it to us, if looting is happening we certainly want to know about it so we can help put a stop to it and help people get their property back.”
