Homer to Host National Trail Day, Youth Only Fishing Day

This weekend Homer will offer trail projects in Kachemak Bay State Park and a youth-only fishing day at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon.

 

The Department of Natural Resources is inviting the public to volunteer for trail projects across the bay Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8.

 

Those who would like to participate may register for the all-day projects at the Homer Wilderness Leaders office in Homer prior to June 7. Pre-registered volunteers will meet at 7 am on the south side of the Seafarers Memorial for transport by water taxi to the state park.

 

The department will supply hand tools however volunteers need to bring a lunch, water, gloves, and snacks. No pets or power tools is requested.

 

The youth-only fishing day will happen Saturday, June 7, from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm through the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Staff will be available at the fishing lagoon from 3 pm to 5 pm to help children 15 and under gear up and fish for king salmon.

 

Fishing rods will be available for children to check out and use at the lagoon along with demonstrations of how to tie egg loops and fishing knots and the best techniques for releasing fish.
