Fire Prevention Crew Hosting Workshops Throughout This Week

As a followup to the still active but less intense Funny River fire, a national fire prevention and education team has been brought in to offer workshops throughout the next week.

Sam Patten with the team detailed some of the topics the various workshops would go over.

Patten: “Well largely what you can do to reduce the wildfire risk around your own property, that’s the main goal, and also what we have learned from the recent big fire, in other words, fuel breaks work, advanced preparation works, and it was a huge benefit to the firefighters to have people take care of their own property in advance.”

Patten said that the team will be at Fred Meyer in Soldotna at 4pm this afternoon handing talking with the public and handing out information.

He added that the workshops scheduled have been placed in the four areas mainly impacted from the Funny River fire: Sterling, Kasilof, Funny River Road, and Soldotna.  At those workshops they hope to avoid rehashing the fire too much and to mainly look forward to fire prevention.
