The Temporary Flight Restrictions put in place during the height of air activity over the Funny River fire area is to be lifted tonight(June 5) at midnight.

Forest Service Air Support Group Supervisor Dale Douglas spoke with us about the current restrictions that are still in place.

Douglas: “Currently its a six point temporary flight restriction, six point meaning we basically built a box around the fire, originally the ceiling of the TFR was 7,000 ft but we did lower that to 2,500. Primarily when the air tankers and stuff like that is flying we need a lot of room for them to maneuver. “

Once again, those restrictions will be lifted as of midnight tonight.

We also asked Douglas if there are any dangers pilots flying over the fire should be aware of to which he said not really and outlined where heavy smoke might be.

Douglas: “There’s still a chance way out on the eastern flank of the thing where it could pick up a little bit more smoke, most of the smokes are going to be in the interior, the line is in good shape, so any smoke you’re seeing now is probably and hopefully is going to be interior smoke where it is really is no concern so it really should not be a problem.”
