The first Binkley Street roundabout will not be finished today as planned, however a portion of the intersection will open for the weekend.
Traffic will be allowed to pass from the Safeway Parking lot to Wilson Lane over from Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8, but Binkley Street on both sides will still be closed.
Soldotna City Engineer Kyle Kornelis said they still have a few things to do on that first roundabout.
Kornelis: “The roundabout is poured, the curb and gutters in there, some of the grade’s not one hundred percent right so it may feel a little bit odd as you drive through it but with the finished project it will certainly be a lot better.”
He also said the intersection will close again Monday.
Kornelis: “The contractor’s been working extremely hard to get things accomplished by this upcoming weekend, we are going to pave Monday and Tuesday and get it striped so it’s been going well, we definitely appreciate the cooperation of both the businesses and commutors and folks using the street.”
Binkley Street and the roundabout is expected to open to traffic from Sterling Highway to Riverview Ave next Wednesday, June 11.
