Senate incumbent Gary Stevens is running against Robert “Moose” Henrichs for Senate District P.

Sen. Stevens said the redistricting is somewhat “back to the future” as he has represented some of those communities before.

Sen. Stevens: “This new iteration where they’ve changed what used to be District R, now it will be District P and it will include the southern part of the Kenai Peninsula, I’m losing actually Bristol Bay, Dillingham, Knightley, and King Salmon and I’m picking up this new district Homer, Anchor Point, Seldovia, and Kachemak Bay.”

He said that his record is what he plans to run on as he has been in the Senate since 2003 and said some hot topics are the fishing regulations and stated his opinion of SB 21.

Sen. Stevens: “Oh yes, I’ve always opposed it I think its way too generous, it gives away way too many of our natural resources, Alaska and Alaskans own the oil and own Prudhoe Bay and we’ve got to make sure we get our fair share out of it, it really is our future and we can’t be giving it away, that would be a terrible mistake so we got to make sure that Alaskans give it a fair share so I do believe that the governors tax changes were just too generous, way too much and it needs to go back to the legislature, we will make some changes, we’ll come part way but I don’t think that we’ll ever go as far as the governor did in the tax breaks that he gave the industry.”
