The ordinance changing borough voting to mail in only ballots will be available for public comment at the Tuesday, June 17, meeting.

Assembly member Wayne Ogle said he has his doubts about how popular it will be.

Ogle: “I’ve talked to a lot of people asking the question over the last couple of weeks, whenever I talk to various people I’ve asked by the way how do you feel about doing elections by mail and I haven’t received any positive feeling about it, people seem to like the election the way it is.”

He said that the people he has spoken with like the way that the voting is done now instead of it feeling like “another bill you have to go through”.

Ogle added that the original reasons for the ordinance seem to have been cancelled out.

Ogle: ” The idea basically I believe was introduced primarily to try to stimulate voter participation and also to hold down costs but the fiscal note in the packet if you’ll notice it’s more expensive to vote by mail than it is for the regular election that they have now.”

Another ordinance up for public comment is changing the 60% voter approval requirement to a simple majority in regards to increasing the cap on taxable sales.

The meeting will take place at the Soldotna Assembly Chambers at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, June 17.
