The Alaska State Fair opens today and will host one concert each day of the fair along with many new attractions free with fair admission.

Fair Marketing Director Dean Phipps told us about the excitement and variety of this years fair.

Phipps: “We have a variety of fair goers, one of my respected mentors from Minnesota State Fair once said that a great fair represents the community from which it belongs, so we don’t expect everyone to like everything that we book but we try to have something that appeals to at least some aspect to fair goers. We have a lot of excellent music that’s free with fair admission, more so than ever.”

Some free attractions with fair admissions include daily shows of Brad’s World of Reptiles, Age of the Dinosaurs exhibit, and Cirque Mechanics, a show that “showcases the relationship between man and machine in an intimate and interactive performance featuring circus acrobatics, mechanical wonders and a bit of clowning around.”

New this year to the fair is the Knights of Valor Jousting Tournament, a daily ticketed show which features full contact jousting with  Shane Adams, of Full Metal Jousting on the History Channel, and other knights in unscripted entertainment.
