During the September 9 Soldotna City Council meeting, local Veteran Herb Stettler proposed a statue for the Soldotna Creek Park veteran memorial.
He described his vision for the veteran memorial.
Stettler: “The city came forth and put a nice it has all the monument in there its got the three flag poles and its got a pedestal with 5 sides and has all of the 5 branches of the service, so we want to top it off with a real nice statue.”
The statue would be fashioned after one outside of Fort Bragg, be made of bronze, stand about five feet high, weigh nearly a ton and cost approximately $48,000.
Stettler: “So that’s why I was asking for help with that and hoping that someone could step forward that could work with the foundation to acquire that sum of money.”
The statue would be completed by a bronze sculptor out of Girdwood.
Stettler said he felt like his proposal was taken positively by the council.
