British Petroleum Alaska is planning to lay off 275 employees and contractors sometime in early 2015.

According to Spokeswoman Dawn Patience, this is due to business in Alaska being smaller due to the previously announced sale of interests in four North Slope oil fields to Hilcorp LLC.

The sale of interests was announced in April and Patience said about 200 employees have accepted jobs with Hilcorp.

Hilcorp’s Manager for External Affairs Lori Nelson previously stated…

Nelson: “The employees are of up-most importance to us, we plan on offering employment to the vast majority of employees associated with the assets involved in the sale. We need the local work force in order to ensure our long term success on the slope and its something that we are going to be paying close attention to.”
